You are now an Energetic Element. Elements are made up of atoms – which consist of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The elements hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen account for more than 99% of the atoms inside the human body. Oxygen alone accounts for 46% of Earth’s mass.
When elements are combined, they form chemical compounds. Water, for example, H2O, is made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. The abbreviation for table salt, NaCl, stands for one sodium (Na) and one chloride (Cl) atom. Chemical compounds all have distinct physical features like smells, textures, boiling and melting points, and so on. Part of the fun of chemistry is knowing which elements make up everything around us and how their interactions affect us.
